Indian Institute of Science Bangalore has announced GATE Exam Marking Scheme 2017 online. The institute has indicated that there might be some minor changes in the paper pattern as compared to the previous year.  Here our team and we have arranged the Exam contents in the Tabular format. Candidates need to have a look at the details.

Marking Scheme

  • There will be negative marking.
  • For 1 mark question, 1/3rd mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • For 2 marks question, 2/3rd mark will be subtracted for every wrong option.
  • For numerical Questions, there will be no negative marking.

General Aptitude (GA) Questions:

This is a mandatory part to attend for all Exams.

This section includes 5 questions of 1 mark each (sub-total 5 marks) and 5 questions of 2 marks each (sub-total 10 marks) to make a total of 15 marks.

The General Aptitude section carries 15% of the total marks

The remaining 70% percentage of the total marks is aimed for the subject of the paper.

2 Marks questions: 30 questions

A candidate wishing to change midway of the examination to another optional section must first choose to deselect one of the previously chosen optional sections (B to G).

Design of Questions in the GATE 2017 Paper:

The questions may be designed to test the following abilities:

(I) Recall: Based on facts, principles, formulae or laws of the discipline of the paper. The candidate is expected to be able to obtain the answer either from his/her memory of the subject or at most from a one-line computation.

(II) Comprehension: These questions are meant to test the candidate’s understanding of the basics of the interested field which will require them to draw simple conclusions from fundamental ideas.

(III) Application: Computation or by logical reasoning.

(IV) Analysis and Synthesis:  These questions include Data, diagrams, images etc.
